>>Artist-Run
Networks<<
Sunday, 15 May, 1-5 pm
Moderna Museet, The Auditorium
Artist-run platforms and networks are by no means a new phenomenon in
the history of art. They take on different appearances, but often seem
to have the same purpose, namely to generate alternative projects, produce
new forms of art and promote new job opportunities for artists. How long
can these artist platforms remain alternative? And where is the line where
alternative becomes institutionalised? Is this line really necessary,
if the institutions themselves can manage to be more reactive and flexible?
By definition, networks also involve an exclusion of many individuals
- could this, in fact, lead to an exclusion mechanism against certain
artists and their oeuvres?

>>Artistic Strategies<<
23 March - 15 May 2005
Artistic strategies
(Konstnärliga strategier) - a series of events based on contemporary
artists' methods and the issues that concern them. Common to all the artists
who have been invited to take part is that they work with strategies,
playful or serious, that can give rise to political and socially critical
debate. Their methods vary from creating one's own institutions to infiltrating
existing systems and undertaking activism that produces new forms of knowledge.
The medium of expression also varies: traditional painting along side
events, performances, video documentation, text-based art and workshops.
